Colour Schemes and Designs

Hi there!
Not been too well recently, battling with Bronchitis as we speak!
I have been looking through some design ideas for this embellishment project and so far I think I will go for something a tad more more subtle than my previous work yet sophisticated. As this mainly focuses on the embellishment we are expected to use calico and the basic pattern block which can be slightly altered by the embellishment. I will see how this toile goes as I have chosen a particularly difficult shoulder section which involves making cubes out of some square designs I have made!!! All involving a lot of measuring and maths.
First I need to choose a colour scheme/story from my research. I previously mentioned that I was particularly taken with the blue and yellow colours used in a work by Chris Ofili. I intend to leave the calico in its natural cream colour, except for the detailed panels which will contain colours. In the past I have found that selecting colours from images using colour cards/ paint cards is a successful way of separating shades and narrowing down the palette to approximately 5 key tones. Here is a link to Dulux's colour station where you can view the entire range of colour cards available and print them off!!! (may come in handy) http://www.dulux.co.uk/colours/tailormade.jsp

Mother's day is coming up on Sunday as well, so been thinking about ideas for that. There are a number of ideas I have had which are far more interesting and personal for mums out there and I thought I would share! I am a great fan of http://www.lastminute.com as I have purchased a number of gift experiences etc... from their site in the past. My key point here is despite being a student and working to a budget you don't always have to come across like a stingy bugger! A few dimes I found included a hot stone massage at the Hilton in Park Lane, London for a mere £20, voucher valid for for 12 months and lots of great restaurant deals. It's currently London Restaurant week where top restaurants are reduced to approx£15-25 for 2 courses and £20-£30 for 3 courses! (Bargain if you ask me!) but only until the end of this week.
Other great ideas included wine and cheese tasting days, cupcakes and cocktails, and theatre tickets, all of which under £50. More expensive options are available for those with pockets that can stretch.
I have decided to book my mum in to The Greenhouse (Michelin starred restaurant) and it will be £25 but don't tell her! This offer is available until July 2010.
And now I shall leave you with a few pictures from the cool hunter's newsletter. Enjoy!
