Afternoon!
Having a good nights sleep has definitely put me in a good frame of mind and I am about to begin tackling my new project. The brief is entitled the future of embroidery and has an external tutor setting the project and tutoring us throughout its duration. Scott Ramsay Kyle is a very successful embroidery and fashion designer who has worked on many collaborations with top designers. Here's the link to is website:

I won't bore you to tears with a huge list of who he's worked with because its all on his website but here are a few important ones to note- Biba, James Long, Emma Cook and his idol Bjork.
The project is more about an interpretation of embroidery as a form of surface decoration and can incorporate all sorts of media. I am going to begin by looking at the work of Chris Ofili who is currently showing at the Tate Britain and I visited his exhibition last friday. His paintings lend themselves very nicely to the idea of embroidery and I really love some of his colour schemes. I think I will begin collecting more and more inspiration and maybe do a few interpretations of my own before starting on my embroidery samples. Having ideas about incorporating Pop Art/Roy Lichtenstein's work for the colours and simplicity of shapes. We will see!!!
