Afternoon. Decided after reading through lots of other people's blogs for a recent project to create my own blog. I am currently a first year fashion design student learning my way around the fashion industry.
Today I am planning on working on two projects I currently have. One is writing an article of 300 words, I'm thinking along the lines of fashion shoots for magazines on a shoe string? Many students have to create professional looking spreads and shoots on no budget and this leads me to asking do the larger magazines e.g. Vogue, Tatler, Dazed and confused etc... need to spend as much money as they do!? My housemate and friend Jenny (who is a styling student) recently had me modelling for her in a derelict council estate. The concept was to contrast the beauty and delicate nature of the outfits against the harsh grimy appearance of the backdrop chosen. It was very successful and led me to start thinking about how some magazines can spend so much on a shoot!? Also I have read somewhere that creative industries are more successful during times of recession, or when money is tighter. Here are some of the shoot pictures which was done for free, so you can judge for yourselves! I must point out these are raw images and have not been touched up!
Next I am collecting inspiration for embroidery and surface decorations. I visited the Chris Ofilli exhibition at the Tate Modern which is a great starting point. I am planning on visiting the Ron Arad exhibition at the Barbican, Bridget Riley at the Tate Britain, and the collection of tapestries, embroideries and quilts at the V&A in the next week. Its a start but I want to add to this list, the more inspiration the better!
Finally I am working for Nathan Jenden at London Fashion Week Monday and Tuesday! Very exciting and I will keep this blog updated with any news and pictures.
Must dash for now
